A luxury cruise turned into high-seas hysteria this week as chaos erupted aboard the Winstar Majesty after its all-you-can-eat buffet ran out of shrimp. The vessel, midway through a seven-day Caribbean voyage, reportedly descended into disorder when passengers discovered the shrimp tray empty just 15 minutes into dinner service.
Witnesses claim tensions flared almost instantly. “People were chanting ‘We want shrimp!’ and banging their forks on tables,” said one passenger. In a bizarre turn, a group of particularly irate cruisers confronted the ship’s captain, demanding answers. The situation escalated when the captain, attempting to calm the mob, was instead ushered—some say forced—into the onboard sauna and locked inside.
Ship staff scrambled to restore order, offering unlimited crab legs and a karaoke night extension as a peace offering. The shrimp shortage was reportedly caused by a supplier mishap at the ship’s last port of call.
No injuries were reported, and the captain was freed after two steamy hours. Winstar Cruises issued a formal apology, promising “ample shrimp and improved crowd management” on future voyages. Meanwhile, the captain has reportedly requested his next assignment be “somewhere shrimp is never served.”
