Birmingham City FC’s ambitious plan to construct a new 60,000-seat stadium is progressing steadily, with a targeted opening in August 2029. The stadium will be the centerpiece of a £2–3 billion “Sports Quarter” development on a 48-acre site in Bordesley, near the city center .

The project, led by Knighthead Capital and co-owner Tom Wagner, aims to transform the former Birmingham Wheels site into a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment hub. The development will include high-performance training facilities, commercial spaces, and community areas, creating approximately 3,000 jobs . The stadium is designed to host not only football matches but also international sporting events, including potential NFL games .

While the 2029 completion date is ambitious, Wagner acknowledges that the timeline depends on various factors, including planning approvals and construction schedules. He remains optimistic, stating, “Five years from August, we’d be in. In a perfect world, if everyone works with us at the same pace, we’re willing to work” .

This new stadium represents a significant step forward for Birmingham City FC, promising to enhance the club’s facilities and contribute to the city’s economic and cultural development.
