Following the dismissal of Tony Mowbray as West Bromwich Albion manager after a 3-1 loss to Derby on Easter Monday, speculation has intensified regarding his successor. Among the names circulating is Wayne Rooney, who, despite a challenging managerial stint at Plymouth Argyle, is listed at 16/1 odds to take over at The Hawthorns.
Rooney’s recent tenure at Plymouth ended after a series of poor results, with the team securing only one win in 14 Championship matches. This performance has raised questions about his readiness for another managerial role in the Championship.
Currently, Gary O’Neil, former manager of Wolves and Bournemouth, is the frontrunner with odds of 3/1. O’Neil has been out of work since leaving Wolves in December and is seen as a strong candidate due to his Premier League experience. Other notable contenders include Steve Cooper, who led Nottingham Forest to Premier League promotion in 2022, and Liam Rosenior, currently managing Strasbourg in France.
The club is expected to prioritize a manager capable of achieving promotion next season, making the selection process crucial for West Brom’s ambitions.
