Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has agreed to a seven-year contract extension, securing his position through the 2031 season with an annual salary of $12.5 million. This extension follows the Buckeyes’ recent national championship victory over Notre Dame.
In a remarkable gesture, Day and his wife, Christina, have pledged $1 million to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s mental health programs. This donation establishes The Nina and Ryan Day Resilience Fund, aimed at advancing mental health research and support.
This isn’t the first time the Day family has championed mental health causes. They previously founded The Christina and Ryan Day Fund for Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Wellness at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Their ongoing commitment underscores a deep-seated belief in the importance of mental health for both athletes and the broader community.
Reflecting on the significance of mental health, Ohio State President Kristina Johnson highlighted former Buckeye Harry Miller’s openness about his personal struggles as a testament to the impact of such initiatives. Day’s dedication to fostering a culture of respect, commitment, and love within the team aligns seamlessly with these philanthropic efforts.
By channeling a portion of his contract extension into mental health resources, Ryan Day exemplifies leadership that transcends the football field, emphasizing the well-being of his players and the community at large.
