As of March 5, 2025, Aaliyah Chavez, the nation’s top women’s basketball recruit for the class of 2025, has not yet announced her commitment to any university. She has narrowed her choices to Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and UCLA. Chavez is scheduled to make her decision public on March 25, 2025.

Chavez is a 5-foot-11 point guard from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, and has amassed over 4,700 career points, making her one of the most prolific scorers in high school basketball history. She has been recognized as the Texas Gatorade Player of the Year and is set to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game on April 1, 2025.

During her recruitment process, Chavez has expressed admiration for Oklahoma’s head coach, Jennie Baranczyk, noting the team’s dynamic style of play and the coach’s youthful energy. However, reports indicate that Texas and Texas Tech have been considered front-runners, with factors such as proximity to home and potential Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities playing significant roles in her decision.

As the announcement date approaches, fans and analysts alike are eager to see where Chavez will choose to continue her basketball career, given her exceptional talent and the impact she is expected to make at the collegiate level.
