The Dallas Mavericks have signed General Manager Nico Harrison to a multi-year contract extension, just days before their NBA Finals matchup against the Boston Celtics.
Harrison, who joined the Mavericks in June 2021 after a 19-year tenure at Nike, has been instrumental in the team’s recent successes. Under his leadership, the Mavericks have reached the Western Conference Finals twice and are now making their first NBA Finals appearance since 2011.
One of Harrison’s significant moves was securing Luka Dončić with a record-setting rookie supermax extension, ensuring the young star remains a cornerstone of the franchise. Additionally, Harrison orchestrated trades that brought in key players like Kyrie Irving, Daniel Gafford, and P.J. Washington Jr., all of whom have been pivotal in the Mavericks’ playoff run.
This extension reflects the organization’s confidence in Harrison’s vision and leadership. Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont praised Harrison’s contributions, stating, “We are proud to have him as part of our team for the long term, and we are excited to watch him continue to build on the foundation of success he has helped establish.”
The Mavericks’ decision to extend Harrison’s contract ahead of the NBA Finals underscores their commitment to stability and sustained success. As they prepare to face the Celtics, the franchise’s leadership is solidifying its foundation for the future.
