n a shocking and rare high-seas crime, a group of heavily armed bandits launched a surprise raid on an Azamara Cruise Line vessel sailing near the Caribbean coast late Monday night. The luxury cruise ship, Azamara Journey, was en route from Barbados to St. Lucia when the attack occurred.
According to initial reports, the bandits approached the ship in high-speed boats under cover of darkness, boarding the vessel just after 2:00 AM. Crew members activated emergency protocols and were able to secure most passengers in safe areas while ship security attempted to hold off the attackers.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic. “They came fast, like something out of a movie,” said George Palmer, a tourist from Canada. “We heard shouting and then the ship’s alarms went off. We didn’t know what was happening.”
The attackers reportedly made off with valuables from several staterooms and attempted to access the onboard casino’s vault before fleeing. No fatalities were reported, though three crew members sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the confrontation.
Azamara has since confirmed the safety of all guests and stated that a full investigation is underway. The ship rerouted to a secure port in Martinique where authorities, including international maritime security teams, are working to identify the perpetrators.
“This was a highly unusual and isolated incident,” said Azamara spokesperson Elena Morales. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and taking immediate steps to enhance onboard security.”
Interpol and regional naval forces have launched a joint task force to track down the attackers, believed to be part of a known piracy ring operating in the southern Caribbean.
