In devastating news that has rocked the AFL community, Collingwood Football Club has announced the sudden and tragic death of champion midfielder Scott Pendlebury. The 36-year-old, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, passed away unexpectedly, sending shockwaves through the sporting world.
Pendlebury, who played over 380 games for the Magpies, was a revered leader both on and off the field. Known for his poise, intelligence, and unmatched vision, he captained Collingwood for a record 206 games and was a six-time Copeland Trophy winner. His influence extended beyond statistics; he was a mentor, a role model, and the heart of the club for nearly two decades.
Club president Jeff Browne said in a statement, “We are absolutely shattered. Scott was more than a footballer — he was a cornerstone of our club, a beloved teammate, and a treasured part of the Collingwood family. Our hearts go out to his wife Alex, his children, and all who loved him.”
Supporters have begun laying flowers and memorabilia outside the AIA Centre as tributes pour in from across the country. The AFL community mourns not just a player, but a legend whose legacy will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Pendles.
