Congratulations to USC alum Evan Mobley on being named the 2025 NBA Defensive Player of the Year! In just his third season, Mobley has cemented himself as the leagueโs premier defender with his elite versatility, timing, and basketball IQ. Whether he’s switching onto guards on the perimeter or protecting the rim with his 7’4″ wingspan, Mobleyโs presence is felt every second heโs on the court.
This season, he anchored the Cleveland Cavaliers’ top-tier defense, averaging 2.1 blocks and 1.4 steals per game, while holding opponents to significantly lower shooting percentages at the rim. His ability to guard all five positions and make intelligent reads on the fly makes him a defensive force rarely seen at his age.
A proud Trojan, Mobley continues to represent USC at the highest level, proving that hard work and dedication can lead to greatness. At just 23, heโs only getting started. With his size, agility, and instincts, Mobley isnโt just the best defender nowโhe might go down as one of the greatest defenders the NBA has ever seen.
Congrats again to Evan Mobleyโa true defensive anchor and rising superstar!
Who do you think was his toughest competition for the award this year?
