SUSPENSION: coach Mark Pope and the referee that was suspended.. See why..

As of March 8, 2025, there is no public information regarding the suspension of Coach Mark Pope. Mark Pope is currently the head coach of the Brigham Young University (BYU) men’s basketball team, and no reports indicate any disciplinary actions against him.

In contrast, former Premier League referee David Coote has faced significant disciplinary measures. In December 2024, Coote’s contract with Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) was terminated following the emergence of videos showing him making derogatory remarks about Liverpool and their former manager, Jürgen Klopp, and another video of him using cocaine during the 2024 European Championship. Subsequently, UEFA’s control, ethics, and disciplinary body banned Coote from officiating until June 2026, citing violations of conduct and tarnishing the reputation of football and UEFA. Coote attributed his poor decisions to the shame and struggle he faced hiding his sexuality, having come out as gay in January 2025.

These incidents underscore the importance of professionalism and integrity in sports, as actions by coaches and referees significantly impact the credibility and fairness of athletic competitions.
