Sheffield United midfielder Barry Bannan has officially apologized after his personal X (formerly Twitter) account was compromised over the weekend. The veteran playmaker addressed fans and the public in a statement released Monday morning, confirming that offensive and inappropriate content posted from his account was the result of a hack.
“I want to sincerely apologise for any offence caused by the recent posts from my X account,” Bannan stated. “My account was hacked, and I had no control over what was being shared. As soon as I became aware, I took immediate steps to regain access and report the breach.”
The posts, which have since been deleted, caused confusion and backlash among fans, many of whom were shocked by the out-of-character messages. Bannan, known for his professionalism and leadership on and off the pitch, reiterated his commitment to representing Sheffield United with integrity.
Club officials also released a statement supporting Bannan, confirming that cybersecurity measures are being reviewed to prevent further incidents.
Fans have largely shown support for the midfielder, acknowledging the growing concern of social media account breaches among public figures.
