Former University of Oklahoma softball star Jocelyn Alo made history in April 2024 by signing a one-month contract with the Savannah Bananas, becoming the first female player to join the team. The Bananas, known for their entertaining and unconventional approach to baseball, welcomed Alo as she prepared for her professional softball season with the Oklahoma City Spark.
Alo’s debut with the Bananas occurred on April 26, 2024, in Mesa, Arizona. This signing was not her first interaction with the team; she had previously made a guest appearance during their visit to Oklahoma City in May 2023.
During her tenure with the Bananas, Alo showcased her exceptional hitting skills. In one notable at-bat against former Pittsburgh Pirates draft pick Bret Helton, she achieved her first hit in a baseball game, lining the ball into the gap between right and center field. This achievement added to her impressive resume, which includes being the NCAA Division I career leader in home runs with 122 during her time at Oklahoma.
Alo’s involvement with the Savannah Bananas not only highlighted her versatility as an athlete but also underscored the evolving landscape of baseball and softball, where traditional boundaries between the sports are increasingly being challenged.
