Ryan Lindgren, a 26-year-old defenseman, has signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the New York Rangers, avoiding arbitration. Lindgren, known for his gritty playing style and defensive reliability, played 76 games last season, recording 17 points (three goals, 14 assists) and 103 blocked shots. He was instrumental in the Rangers’ run to the Eastern Conference Final, where they were defeated by the Florida Panthers in six games.
The one-year deal allows the Rangers to manage their salary cap effectively ahead of significant free-agent decisions next summer, including those involving key players like goaltender Igor Shesterkin, defenseman K’Andre Miller, and forward Alexis Lafrenière. By opting for a short-term contract with Lindgren, the Rangers maintain roster flexibility while evaluating his performance and durability, given his history of injuries due to his physical style of play.
Lindgren has expressed a strong desire to remain with the Rangers long-term, stating, “I love being in New York… I want to be there as long as I can.” His commitment and resilience have earned him the respect of teammates and coaches alike, with head coach Peter Laviolette referring to him as a “heart-and-soul guy.”
