A tragic incident occurred aboard the Sky Princess cruise ship on December 21, 2024, when 48-year-old passenger Elizabeth McElmurray died after attempting to jump overboard. The ship was returning to Florida following an eight-day Caribbean voyage. Witnesses reported that McElmurray fell onto a lower deck during the attempt. Despite immediate medical attention from ship personnel, she could not be revived. Princess Cruises expressed deep sorrow over the event and provided grief support services to passengers and crew members affected by the incident. 
Passengers who witnessed the event described it as extremely disturbing and traumatic. One individual recounted that their family members directly observed the incident and were deeply affected. Another person, claiming to be McElmurray’s cousin, expressed appreciation for the support and understanding from others, noting that McElmurray had been looking forward to the cruise, especially for her mother.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding McElmurray’s death. This tragedy follows other recent incidents involving passengers going overboard on cruise ships, highlighting ongoing safety concerns within the industry.
