
Norwegian Cruise Line is mourning the loss of Captain Evans Hoyt, a distinguished mariner whose career spanned over four decades. Captain Hoyt joined Norwegian Cruise Line in 2005 and commanded several of its prominent vessels, including the Pride of America, Norwegian Spirit, Norwegian Breakaway, and Norwegian Escape. His leadership was instrumental during the launch of Norwegian Breakaway in 2013, overseeing its inaugural voyages from New York to Bermuda .
Captain Hoyt’s maritime journey began after graduating from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1982. He gained extensive experience on various vessels, from ocean-going tugs in the Bering Sea to cruise ships, freighters, and tankers. His passion for the sea and dedication to excellence earned him respect throughout the industry.
