In a significant move on March 7, 2025, the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired veteran forward Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers. Laughton, 30, has spent his entire 12-season career with the Flyers, amassing 265 points in 661 games. This season, he contributed 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 60 games.

In exchange, the Maple Leafs sent forward Nikita Grebenkin, a 21-year-old Russian prospect with 21 points in 39 AHL games this season, and a conditional first-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft to Philadelphia. The first-round pick is top-10 protected; if it falls within the top 10, it will transfer to the following year’s draft. Additionally, the Maple Leafs included a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a sixth-round pick in 2027. Notably, the Flyers are retaining 50% of Laughton’s remaining contract.

 

Laughton’s arrival bolsters the Maple Leafs’ forward lineup with his experience and scoring ability, aiming to enhance the team’s depth as they pursue a deep playoff run.
