As of April 17, 2025, there has been  official announcement regarding Brayden Maynard’s departure from the Collingwood Football Club. In fact, recent developments indicate his continued commitment to the team.

 

Maynard, a key defender for Collingwood, has been a significant contributor since his debut in 2015, amassing over 210 games. In October 2024, he signed a two-year contract extension, securing his position with the Magpies through the end of the 2026 season. This move was part of Collingwood’s strategy to retain their core players and build upon their recent successes .

 

Despite this commitment, Maynard’s future had been a topic of discussion due to his status as an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025 season. He acknowledged the business aspect of the sport, stating, “I would feel weird in another jumper, but it is a business, so whatever happens, happens” . This openness led to speculation about potential offers from other clubs, notably North Melbourne, which reportedly considered presenting a substantial contract .

 

Collingwood’s management recognized the challenge of retaining Maynard amidst such interest. CEO Craig Kelly expressed the club’s desire to keep him, emphasizing their efforts to balance financial constraints while showing their appreciation for his contributions .

 

In addition to contractual discussions, Maynard faced personal challenges. In March 2025, he was involved in a car accident but fortunately emerged unscathed and continued to participate in games . Earlier, in November 2023, he underwent shoulder surgery, which delayed his pre-season training for 2024 .

 

Maynard also dealt with emotional hardships. Following a comeback win over North Melbourne, he shared the devastating news of a close friend’s passing due to mental health issues, highlighting the importance of mental well-being and the support within the AFL community .

 

Despite these challenges, Maynard’s commitment to Collingwood remains evident. His recent contract extension and continued presence on the field underscore his dedication to the club. As of now, there is no indication of his departure from the Magpies.
