Kyrie Irving will not play tonight against the Denver Nuggets. On March 4, 2025, an MRI confirmed that he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee during a game against the Sacramento Kings. The injury occurred late in the first quarter, and despite the severity, Irving remained in the game to complete his free throws.
This injury is a significant setback for the Dallas Mavericks, who are already dealing with multiple key player absences. The team traded star player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis on February 1, 2025. However, Davis is currently sidelined with a groin injury, and his return date remains uncertain. As a result, the Mavericks have been struggling, winning only one of their last eight games, placing them at risk of missing the playoffs.
With Irving out for the rest of the season, the Mavericks face the challenge of navigating the remainder of the schedule with a depleted roster. The team is currently 33-36, holding a slim 1.5-game lead over the Phoenix Suns for a Play-In tournament spot. If injuries continue to mount, Dallas may struggle to meet the required player threshold and consequently might have to forfeit games.
