Indianapolis, IN & Concord, NC – May 26, 2025 – NASCAR star Kyle Larson’s ambitious attempt to complete 1,100 miles of racing in a single day hit another setback in what fans have dubbed “Double Duty Part II.” For the second time in as many years, Larson set out to compete in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day—a grueling feat that demands peak physical endurance, pinpoint logistics, and a little racing luck.

Larson, who qualified solidly for the Indy 500, began the day with high hopes after months of preparation. His performance at the Brickyard was strong early on, battling in the top 10 through the mid-stages of the race. But a mistimed pit stop and late-race handling issues dropped him down the order, forcing him to settle for a mid-pack finish.

The real challenge came with the transition. Weather delays in Indianapolis once again tightened the turnaround window, and despite a helicopter and private jet waiting on standby, Larson arrived at Charlotte Motor Speedway behind schedule. Although he strapped into the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet for the Coca-Cola 600, fatigue and mechanical gremlins shortened his night.

“Physically, I felt ready. But when you’re battling the clock, delays, and car issues, the margin for error disappears,” Larson said post-race.

The “Double” remains one of motorsport’s most grueling tests, completed successfully only by a handful of drivers, including Tony Stewart in 2001. Larson’s latest attempt, though incomplete, once again captivated fans and proved his unwavering determination to etch his name into racing history.

Whether or not he makes a third attempt remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Kyle Larson’s pursuit of the 1,100-mile challenge has already left a lasting impression on the racing world.
