Karsen Ochs Hanna, a former standout pitcher for the University of South Carolina (USC) softball team, has returned to her alma mater as the program’s director of operations. During her collegiate career from 2020 to 2023, Ochs Hanna made significant contributions on the field, starting 29 games and making 82 appearances over 210.1 innings.

 

She recorded 17 wins and three saves, ranking second all-time in program history for relief appearances. Her academic achievements are equally impressive, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in public relations in May 2023 and later earning a Master of Science in coaching education in August 2024.

 

Since graduating, Ochs Hanna has remained actively involved in the softball community. She served as a broadcast analyst for USC’s SEC Network+ games during the 2024 season and was the head softball coach at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School. Additionally, she worked with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, supporting multiple collegiate teams, including five softball programs.

 

Head coach Ashley Chastain Woodard expressed enthusiasm about Ochs Hanna’s return, stating, “I am thrilled to announce Karsen Ochs Hanna as our new director of softball operations. Karsen and I share a deep love and passion for this program as she wore the Garnet and Black for her career.” Ochs Hanna also shared her excitement, noting, “Their Carolina roots run deep, as do mine, and I’m excited to come alongside them to continue building this program towards greatness.”

 

Ochs Hanna’s return to USC signifies a commitment to leveraging her experience and passion to further elevate the Gamecocks’ softball program.
