
Rod Gilbert, affectionately known as “Mr. Ranger,” was a legendary figure in New York Rangers history. He played his entire 18-season NHL career with the Rangers from 1960 to 1978, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in goals (406) and points (1,021).
Gilbert was the first player in team history to have his number retired when his No. 7 was raised to the Madison Square Garden rafters on October 14, 1979. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982. Following his retirement, Gilbert remained an active ambassador for the Rangers and was deeply involved in community and charitable endeavors. He passed away on August 22, 2021, at the age of 80.
