Collingwood Football Club has announced key lineup changes ahead of their Round 2 match against Footscray at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) this Friday night. Star midfielder Jordan De Goey is set to make his season debut after missing the opening round due to bone bruising sustained in the pre-season. Coach Craig McRae expressed enthusiasm about De Goey’s return, emphasizing the team’s cautious approach to ensure his readiness for a consistent season.

In addition to De Goey, ruck-forward Mason Cox has been recalled to the side. Cox’s inclusion aims to bolster the Magpies’ aerial presence and versatility in the forward line. However, the team will be without key forward Brody Mihocek, who has been ruled out due to injury.

The Magpies are coming off a dominant 91-point victory over Port Adelaide in Round 1, showcasing a potent offensive and defensive performance. Forward Dan McStay rebounded from a challenging opening round to contribute three goals and 21 disposals in the win. He emphasized the importance of proactivity and hard work in contests, reflecting the team’s resilient mindset.

As they prepare to face Footscray, Collingwood is mindful of the Bulldogs’ emerging talent, particularly Sam Darcy. Darcy posed significant challenges in their previous encounter, registering three goals and seven marks. Coach McRae highlighted the need for a collective defensive effort to mitigate Darcy’s impact, underscoring the importance of team support in such matchups.

Off the field, Collingwood has been in the spotlight due to the uncertain future of defender Brayden Maynard. Maynard, a free agent at season’s end, has not ruled out exploring options with other clubs, leaving his tenure with the Magpies in question.

The club also paid tribute to veterans Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom, who are set to play their 308th AFL game together as teammates, marking a significant milestone in the club’s history.

Collingwood’s upcoming match against Footscray is anticipated to be a significant test, with both teams eager to assert their dominance early in the season.
