Former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley has returned to the Nittany Lions, joining the coaching staff as an assistant quarterbacks coach. This move reunites McSorley with his college coach, James Franklin, under whom he led the team to a Big Ten Championship in 2016 and a Fiesta Bowl victory in 2017.

McSorley enjoyed a standout collegiate career at Penn State from 2016 to 2018, setting multiple school records, including single-season passing yards, touchdowns, and career total yards. He ranks second in program history for career wins, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.

After being selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, McSorley spent six seasons in the NFL, primarily in backup roles with teams such as the Ravens and the Arizona Cardinals. He appeared in nine games, including one start, accumulating 502 passing yards and one touchdown.

In his new role at Penn State, McSorley will work alongside quarterbacks coach Danny O’Brien, contributing his experience and insights to develop the team’s quarterbacks. This appointment makes McSorley the 11th letterman to join the Nittany Lions’ coaching staff, highlighting the program’s emphasis on integrating former players into coaching roles.

McSorley’s return is expected to provide valuable mentorship to the current roster, particularly to starting quarterback Drew Allar, as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
