Michigan Wolverines senior first baseman Lauren Putz has been named the 2025 Softball America Player of the Year, capping off a stellar season with national recognition. Putz, a cornerstone of the Wolverines’ lineup, posted career-best numbers, hitting .412 with 17 home runs and 58 RBIs. Her consistent offensive production and leadership were pivotal in guiding Michigan to a deep postseason run.
Putz wasn’t the only Wolverine to receive accolades—three of her teammates also earned All-America honors. Sophomore pitcher Riley Johnson, junior shortstop Kayla Bennett, and senior outfielder Tori Fields were all recognized for their standout performances. Johnson anchored the pitching staff with a 1.43 ERA and 215 strikeouts, while Bennett dazzled defensively and contributed a .365 batting average. Fields brought speed and power to the lineup, tallying 15 stolen bases and 12 home runs.
This marks the first time since 2016 that Michigan has had four players named All-Americans in the same season, a testament to the program’s resurgence under head coach Bonnie Tholl. With Putz leading the charge, the Wolverines have reestablished themselves as a national powerhouse in collegiate softball, setting the stage for continued success in the years ahead.
