In a landmark recognition, legendary Tennessee Lady Vols star Candace Parker has been named the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in college women’s basketball by ESPN. The honor comes after an in-depth panel and fan-based evaluation, where Parker edged out iconic competitors including Diana Taurasi of UConn, Cheryl Miller of USC, and Lynette Woodard of Kansas.
Parker’s college career at the University of Tennessee from 2005 to 2008 under the legendary coach Pat Summitt was nothing short of historic. She led the Lady Vols to back-to-back national championships in 2007 and 2008, winning Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament both years. Known for her versatility, athleticism, and game-changing impact, she was also the first woman to dunk in an NCAA Tournament game.
Diana Taurasi, who led UConn to three national titles, and Cheryl Miller, who transformed women’s hoops in the 1980s, were among the closest contenders. Lynette Woodard, the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball, also received strong support.
Parker’s blend of stats, leadership, and legacy solidified her place at the top. As ESPN noted, “Candace Parker redefined the game—and won at every level.”
