The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox have reportedly engaged in discussions about a potential blockbuster trade involving star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. and Dodgers’ center fielder James Outman. The Dodgers are seeking to bolster their outfield, especially after moving Mookie Betts to the infield and facing the potential departure of Teoscar Hernández in free agency. 
Luis Robert Jr., a 2023 All-Star, is under team control through 2027 with a contract that includes a $15 million salary in 2025 and $20 million team options for 2026 and 2027. Despite a challenging 2024 season where he batted .225 with a .281 on-base percentage and a .370 slugging percentage, Robert’s prior performance makes him an attractive target. From 2021 to 2023, he posted a combined .287/.331/.511 slash line with 63 home runs and 37 stolen bases, showcasing his potential as a dynamic player.
James Outman, on the other hand, experienced a sophomore slump in 2024, hitting just .153 with a .508 OPS in 45 games. His struggles led to multiple stints between the majors and Triple-A Oklahoma City. Despite this, Outman remains a player with potential, having finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting in his debut season.
The White Sox have been open to trading Robert but have maintained a high asking price. They reportedly seek at least one “meaningful piece” in return, though their demands have softened compared to earlier expectations. Previously, they sought a return similar to the package the Nationals received for Juan Soto, but now they might be more flexible, especially considering Robert’s recent performance and injury history.
Adding to the complexity, the White Sox have also discussed including left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet in potential trade packages. Crochet, along with closer Michael Kopech, could be part of a larger deal, indicating the White Sox’s willingness to make significant roster changes as they consider a rebuild.
While no deal has been finalized, the ongoing discussions highlight the Dodgers’ intent to strengthen their roster and the White Sox’s openness to reshaping theirs. If the trade materializes, it could have significant implications for both teams, potentially altering their trajectories for the upcoming seasons.
