There are credible reports of a Carnival Cruise ship capsizing and stranding 2,000 passengers. However, there have been recent maritime incidents involving smaller vessels associated with cruise lines:
Excursion Boat Capsizes Near Cartagena, Colombia: On March 24, 2025, an excursion boat carrying 38 tourists from the AIDAbella cruise ship capsized off the coast of Colombia near the Barú Peninsula due to strong winds and high waves. Fortunately, all passengers were rescued without serious injuries.
Boating Accident Delays Carnival Elation in Jacksonville: On March 22, 2025, the Carnival Elation’s docking in Jacksonville, Florida, was delayed due to a search-and-rescue operation on the St. Johns River. A small boat with eight people aboard capsized near the Dames Point Bridge, resulting in one fatality and three individuals missing.
It’s important to note that while these incidents are serious, they involve smaller vessels and not the main cruise ships themselves.
