News: In a move that strengthens their coaching staff, Penn State Football has rehired Greg Gattuso, a former Nittany Lion, as a senior defensive analyst. Gattuso returns to his alma mater after an 11-year tenure as the head coach at the University at Albany, where he led the team to two FCS playoff appearances and amassed a 54-69 overall record. His decision to leave UAlbany was motivated by a desire to return to Penn State, where he played defensive line under coach Joe Paterno and began his coaching career. 
Head coach James Franklin expressed enthusiasm about Gattuso’s return, noting that his extensive experience and deep ties to the university will be invaluable as the Nittany Lions prepare for the upcoming season. Gattuso’s appointment is part of Franklin’s broader strategy to bolster the team’s defensive capabilities, aiming to position Penn State as a leading contender in the Big Ten Conference.
This strategic hire aligns with recent staff enhancements, including the addition of Stan Drayton as the running backs coach. Drayton, a 32-year coaching veteran, joined the Nittany Lions after serving as the head coach at Temple for the past three seasons. These coaching changes reflect Franklin’s commitment to assembling a seasoned and dynamic coaching staff to elevate Penn State’s performance in the 2025 season.
The Nittany Lions are set to begin spring practice next week, with fans eagerly anticipating the annual Blue-White Game scheduled for April 26 at Beaver Stadium.
