News: Ohio State University has announced that head football coach Ryan Day has agreed in principle to a contract extension through the 2031 season, pending approval by the university’s Board of Trustees. The new seven-year agreement will increase Day’s annual compensation to $12.5 million, making him the second-highest-paid coach in college football, behind Georgia’s Kirby Smart.

This extension comes on the heels of the Buckeyes’ first national championship since 2014, achieved under Day’s leadership. The team secured impressive postseason victories over Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame to clinch the title.

Day, who succeeded Urban Meyer in 2019, holds a 70-10 record, boasting an .875 winning percentageโ€”the highest among active coaches. Expressing gratitude, Day stated, “I want to thank President Ted Carter, director of athletics Ross Bjork, and the Board of Trustees for the confidence and trust they have in me to oversee this program.”

Athletic Director Ross Bjork praised Day’s leadership, noting, “For usโ€”myself, President Carter, and the leadershipโ€”there was never any doubt, even though we don’t like what happened in that game, about his future from our standpoint.”

The contract extension reflects Ohio State’s commitment to maintaining stability and excellence within its football program, ensuring that Day will continue to lead the Buckeyes in the coming years.
