Browne was diagnosed with myeloma, a type of blood cancer, in September 2023. Despite the diagnosis, he continued his leadership role, guiding Collingwood to an AFL premiership victory in 2023.

In October 2024, Browne declared that he was in remission from his cancer diagnosis. He acknowledged the demands of the presidency and expressed the need to focus on maintaining his health. Consequently, he announced that he would complete his three-year term as president and not seek re-election at the upcoming Annual General Meeting on December 16, 2024.

Browne’s leadership tenure at Collingwood was marked by significant achievements, including the 2023 premiership and the implementation of all 18 recommendations from the Do Better report, addressing systemic racism within the club. He also played a pivotal role in the redevelopment of the club’s facilities and strengthening relationships within the AFL community.

His announcement of being cancer-free is a testament to his resilience and determination. Browne’s journey has been an inspiration to many, reflecting his commitment not only to his personal health but also to the betterment of the Collingwood Football Club.
