Gary Pert resigned as Chief Executive Officer of the Collingwood Football Club in July 2017 after a decade in the role. His departure coincided with the club’s ongoing strategic review aimed at redefining its future direction. Pert stated that his decision was influenced by the club’s need for long-term leadership commitment to implement the outcomes of the review.
During Pert’s tenure, Collingwood experienced significant growth and success, including a premiership in 2010, consistent finals appearances from 2007 to 2013, and a substantial increase in membership from 38,000 in 2007 to over 74,000 in 2016.
Following his resignation, Peter Murphy, who was leading the club’s strategic review, was appointed as interim CEO. Club President Eddie McGuire acknowledged Pert’s contributions, noting that the club had achieved record membership and premiership success during his tenure.
Pert’s departure marked a significant transition for Collingwood as it sought to redefine its future direction amid on-field challenges.
