In a major win for the Vancouver Canucks and their fans, star defenseman and team captain Quinn Hughes has signed a six-year contract extension worth $18.4 million. The deal ensures Hughes remains a key part of the Canucks’ future, locking in the 25-year-old through the 2030-31 NHL season.
Hughes, who recently captured the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman, has been the cornerstone of the Canucks’ blue line since his debut. Known for his elite skating, vision, and leadership, he posted a career-high 92 points last season, leading all NHL defensemen in scoring.
In a statement, Hughes cited his belief in the team’s direction and deep connection to the Vancouver community as key reasons for staying. “This city has become my home,” Hughes said. “I believe in what we’re building here. We’re not done yet.”
General Manager Patrik Allvin praised the signing, calling Hughes “the heart of this team’s core” and essential to their long-term success.
With this extension, the Canucks solidify their commitment to competing at the highest level — and Hughes remains the face of that vision.
