Nick Robertson’s tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs has been marked by a series of challenges, including injuries and limited playing time, leading to his recent decision to seek opportunities elsewhere.
In June 2024, Robertson, then 22, requested a trade after declining to sign a qualifying offer from the Maple Leafs. His frustration stemmed from being loaned to the team’s AHL affiliate and not reporting to the Marlies during his demotion. He expressed his dissatisfaction, stating, “I’ve just been practising on my own while the guys were on the road and just waiting for my turn, I guess.”
Despite the trade request, Robertson signed a one-year, $875,000 contract with Toronto in September 2024. At that time, he commented, “I’m not going to deep dive into that. I signed in Toronto. I’m happy to be in Toronto. Being back here a week ago, it’s good to see everyone. I’m happy to be back.”
Throughout his career with the Maple Leafs, Robertson faced multiple injuries that hindered his ability to secure a consistent spot in the lineup. In December 2022, he suffered a shoulder injury requiring season-ending surgery. Reflecting on his setbacks, Robertson noted, “Every year I’ve had a setback. The secret for success for me is just being healthy.”
As of March 2025, there have been no official announcements regarding Robertson’s departure from the Maple Leafs. His current status with the team remains uncertain, with no recent statements or updates available.
