In a significant move during the current transfer window, Rotterdam United has confirmed that promising midfielder Louie Sibley will join Wigan Athletic on a short-term loan deal. The decision comes as part of Rotterdam’s strategic push to provide Sibley with more consistent first-team football and further develop his on-field maturity.
Sibley, 23, has struggled for minutes this season due to increased competition in Rotterdam’s midfield following a flurry of summer signings. Despite showing flashes of brilliance in limited appearances, manager Marco Verhoeven believes a loan stint at Wigan — who are pushing for a strong finish in League One — will offer the dynamic playmaker the opportunity to regain form and confidence.
“We still see Louie as a big part of our future,” Verhoeven stated. “But at this stage, regular game time is crucial for his growth, and Wigan provides the perfect environment for that.”
Wigan Athletic are reportedly excited about the acquisition, hoping Sibley’s creativity and energy can bolster their promotion ambitions. The loan agreement runs until the end of the season, with no buy clause included. Sibley is expected to be available for Wigan’s upcoming clash against Oxford United this weekend.
