In a thrilling SEC Tournament opener, Otega Oweh’s last-second heroics lifted the No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats to an 85-84 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners. With just 0.5 seconds remaining, Oweh sank a baseline jumper, securing Kentucky’s advancement to the tournament quarterfinals.
Oweh led all scorers with 27 points, while teammates Koby Brea and Andrew Carr added 22 and 11 points, respectively. The Wildcats, who had led by as many as 10 points late in the game, saw their lead slip away but ultimately prevailed with Oweh’s decisive shot.
This victory highlights Oweh’s significant impact since transferring from Oklahoma, where he averaged 11.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season. His performance has been lauded by former coach Porter Moser, who described Oweh as having an “all-league type of year.”
Looking ahead, Kentucky will face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals, aiming to continue their pursuit of the championship.
