Leeds United are reportedly preparing a £16.8 million bid to sign Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendía, as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season. The Argentine playmaker, who joined Villa from Norwich City in 2021 for a club-record fee of around £33 million, has struggled with injuries and inconsistent form, leading to speculation about his future at Villa Park.

Buendía missed the entirety of the 2023/24 season due to a serious ACL injury, but Leeds are said to be confident in his recovery and view him as a key addition to their promotion push. The 27-year-old is known for his creativity, vision, and ability to unlock defences — qualities that Leeds manager Daniel Farke values highly, having previously worked with Buendía at Norwich.

Aston Villa may be open to offloading the Argentine as they reshape their squad for European competition next season, and the offer from Leeds could be tempting given Buendía’s limited recent impact. However, Villa are expected to demand a higher fee or structured deal to recoup some of their investment.

Negotiations are ongoing, and a move could be finalized in the coming weeks.
