LEXINGTON, Ky. — In a big win for Kentucky basketball’s offseason, the Wildcats have added a potent weapon to their backcourt. Former Florida Gators guard Denzel Aberdeen has committed to Kentucky via the transfer portal, bringing a blend of experience, energy, and scoring upside to Lexington.
Aberdeen, a 6-foot-4 sophomore guard, saw an expanded role with the Gators during the 2024-25 season, showcasing his athleticism, on-ball defense, and growing offensive game. While he wasn’t a full-time starter, Aberdeen averaged 7.8 points, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals in 22 minutes per game, earning a reputation as a high-motor spark plug off the bench.
Kentucky’s new head coach has made it clear that toughness, versatility, and backcourt depth are key offseason priorities, and Aberdeen checks all those boxes. His ability to play either guard spot gives the Wildcats flexibility, especially as they reshape their rotation amid NBA Draft departures and other transfer portal movement.
