In a move that has thrilled Penn State fans across the country, former Nittany Lions quarterback Trace McSorley is returning to Happy Valley — this time as a member of the coaching staff. McSorley, who led Penn State to a Big Ten Championship in 2016 and set multiple school passing records during his standout college career, will serve as the team’s new assistant quarterbacks coach.
McSorley’s leadership, competitive spirit, and deep understanding of the quarterback position made him a fan favorite during his time in blue and white. After spending several seasons in the NFL with the Ravens, Cardinals, and Patriots, he brings valuable professional experience back to the program that helped launch his career.
“I’m beyond excited to be back in State College and give back to a program that gave me so much,” McSorley said. “I can’t wait to help mentor these young men and contribute to Penn State’s continued success.”
Head Coach James Franklin praised the hire, calling McSorley “a fierce competitor and student of the game whose presence will elevate our quarterback room.” McSorley’s return marks a full-circle moment for both him and the Penn State community.
