In a remarkable act of generosity and community commitment, South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley has invested $3.6 million to transform a historic Charleston home into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth. The initiative aims to provide safety, stability, and opportunity for at-risk young people facing housing insecurity.
The shelter, named “Staley House of Hope,” will offer not only a safe place to sleep but also access to mental health services, education support, job training, and mentorship programs. The move comes after a surge in youth homelessness across South Carolina, with many teens falling through the cracks of existing social services.
“I’ve been blessed beyond measure, and now it’s time to give back in a way that can truly change lives,” said Staley during a press conference. “Every young person deserves a chance.”
Construction is already underway, with the facility expected to open in early 2026. Community leaders, former players, and fans have praised Staley’s ongoing commitment to empowerment both on and off the court.
