In a powerful act of compassion and community leadership, Collingwood Football Club’s standout forward Brody Mihocek has invested $3.3 million to convert a heritage-listed property in downtown Melbourne into a shelter for homeless youth. The initiative, announced earlier today, aims to provide safe housing, support services, and mentorship opportunities for vulnerable young Australians.
Mihocek, who won the NAB AFL Rising Star award in 2020, said he was inspired to act after learning about the increasing rates of youth homelessness across the country. “Football has given me a platform, and I want to use it to make a real difference,” Mihocek stated during a press conference.
The facility, set to open later this year, will offer accommodation for up to 40 individuals aged 16–24, along with access to mental health services, job training, and educational support. Partnering with local charities and housing organizations, Mihocek hopes the shelter will serve as a blueprint for future community-driven solutions to homelessness.
Fans, teammates, and public figures have praised the move, calling it a rare and inspiring example of sports leadership beyond the field.
