As of April 17, 2025, there has been official announcement regarding Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier’s departure. Despite earlier speculation and criticism following a challenging 2024 season, the University of Florida reaffirmed its commitment to Napier. Athletic Director Scott Stricklin publicly supported him, emphasizing the program’s focus on long-term success and stability.
Napier faced scrutiny after the Gators finished the 2024 season with a 5-7 record, missing bowl eligibility. However, the team showed resilience, notably defeating Tulane 33-8 in the Gasparilla Bowl, bringing their season record to 8-5. This victory, along with a strong recruiting class, has provided optimism for the program’s future.
While some analysts and fans have called for a coaching change, citing a 12-16 overall record and struggles against ranked opponents, the university’s leadership has chosen to retain Napier, focusing on building a foundation for sustained success. As of now, there is no confirmation of his departure.
