The Ohio State University Marching Band, affectionately known as “The Best Damn Band in the Land” (TBDBITL), has been selected to perform at the inaugural halftime show of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final. This historic event marks the first time the World Cup final will feature a halftime performance, aligning with FIFA’s initiative to enhance the tournament’s entertainment value.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place from June 11 to July 19, will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The final match is scheduled for July 19, 2026, at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the addition of the halftime show, emphasizing its significance in elevating the global spectacle of the event.
TBDBITL’s selection is a testament to its rich legacy and exceptional performances. Renowned for their intricate formations and musical prowess, the band has previously captivated audiences at major events, including the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Their participation in the World Cup final underscores their status as a premier marching band on the international stage.
The halftime show is being organized in collaboration with the international advocacy organization Global Citizen and the British band Coldplay, who will assist in curating the performance. While this initiative aims to infuse a new entertainment dimension into the World Cup, it has elicited mixed reactions from fans. Some enthusiasts express concern over potential deviations from traditional football customs, while others welcome the added spectacle reminiscent of major U.S. sporting events like the Super Bowl.
As the event approaches, anticipation builds around TBDBITL’s performance, which is expected to blend their signature precision and creativity, contributing to a memorable halftime experience for a global audience.
