A 72-year-old American man is presumed to have fallen overboard from the Ruby Princess cruise ship during a five-day voyage to Ensenada, Mexico. The ship docked in San Francisco on December 2, 2024, at approximately 6:50 a.m., when the passenger was reported missing.
Despite extensive searches and thorough reviews of security footage, the man, who was traveling alone, could not be located. Consequently, officials are treating the case as a man overboard incident.
The U.S. Coast Guard conducted aerial searches about 45 miles off the coast of Monterey, California, but suspended the operation pending new developments. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has taken over the investigation, with Princess Cruises fully cooperating. The Ruby Princess departed later that evening for a 16-day voyage to the Hawaiian Islands.
