The Australian Football League (AFL) community is mourning the sudden loss of former West Coast Eagles premiership player, Adam Hunter, who passed away at the age of 43. Hunter was found unresponsive at his residence in Bunbury, Western Australia, and despite paramedics’ efforts, he could not be revived. Authorities have stated that his death is being treated as non-suspicious.
Hunter’s AFL career spanned from 2000 to 2009, during which he played 151 games for the Eagles. He was renowned for his versatility on the field, primarily serving as a defender but also making significant contributions in the forward line. One of his most memorable moments was during the 2006 Grand Final against the Sydney Swans, where he kicked a crucial goal in the final stages, helping secure a one-point victory for West Coast.
Former coach John Worsfold paid tribute to Hunter, emphasizing his passion for the game and dedication to his teammates. Worsfold remarked, “Out of all my time in footy… he’s probably the player that loved the game more than any player I’ve seen.”
Hunter’s passing is part of a series of recent tragedies within the AFL community, including the deaths of former Brisbane Lions player Troy Selwood and Essendon VFL coach Dale Tapping. These losses have deeply affected fans, players, and officials alike.
The AFL community extends its deepest sympathies to Hunter’s family, friends, and former teammates during this difficult time.
