The University of Michigan will honor football legend Charles Woodson by erecting a statue in his likeness at Michigan Stadium, as reported by ESPN. Woodson, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in college football history, was the 1997 Heisman Trophy winner and remains the only primarily defensive player ever to win the award. The statue will celebrate his enduring legacy and influence on the Michigan Wolverines program.
Athletic director Warde Manuel announced the plan, noting Woodson’s immense contributions to Michigan football both on and off the field. “Charles embodies what it means to be a Michigan Man—tough, dedicated, and a true leader,” Manuel said. The statue will be unveiled during the 2025 season, coinciding with the anniversary of Michigan’s national championship in 1997, a team led by Woodson.
