A tragic incident occurred aboard the Sky Princess cruise ship on December 21, 2024, resulting in the death of a 48-year-old American female passenger. The woman attempted to jump overboard but fell onto a lower deck. Despite immediate emergency medical care from ship personnel, she could not be revived.

 

The Sky Princess was on the final day of an eight-day Western Caribbean voyage, having departed from Fort Lauderdale on December 15. The itinerary included stops at Princess Cays in the Bahamas, Ocho Rios in Jamaica, Grand Cayman Island, and Cozumel in Mexico. The vessel returned to Port Everglades on December 22 as scheduled.

 

Princess Cruises expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the passenger’s family and friends. The cruise line provided grief support services to guests and crew members affected by the event and is cooperating fully with local and federal authorities in their investigation.

 

This tragedy follows a similar incident weeks earlier involving a 72-year-old man who was believed to have fallen overboard from the Ruby Princess cruise ship before docking in San Francisco after a voyage to Mexico.

 

Cruise lines offer counseling services and support to those affected by such events. Passengers are encouraged to utilize these resources during difficult times.
