In a tragic development that has shaken the NFL community, the Seattle Seahawks have announced the sudden passing of backup quarterback Drew Lock. Lock, just 28 years old, reportedly died in a car accident late Sunday night outside of Seattle. Authorities confirmed the accident occurred during heavy rain, and no other passengers were involved.
Lock, originally drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2019, joined the Seahawks in 2022 as part of the blockbuster trade involving Russell Wilson. Though he served primarily in a backup role, Lock was well-regarded by teammates and fans alike for his professionalism, leadership, and positive energy in the locker room.
Head coach Mike Macdonald expressed his devastation in a brief statement: “Drew was not only a competitor on the field but an incredible human being. Our hearts are with his family and loved ones.”
The Seahawks have postponed all team activities this week to give players and staff time to grieve. Tributes have already begun pouring in from across the league, highlighting Lock’s resilience and character. The NFL has also released a statement offering condolences and support to the Seahawks organization and the Lock family.
