German heavy metal band Accept has announced the sad departure of founding bassist Peter Baltes. The news came as a surprise to fans, as Baltes has been a key member of the band since its formation in the 1970s.
In a heartfelt statement released by the band, Baltes expressed his gratitude for the decades spent making music with Accept, but noted that it was time for him to move on. “I’ve spent most of my life with this band,” he said, “but sometimes, personal and professional paths go in different directions.”
Guitarist Wolf Hoffmann also shared his feelings on Baltes’ exit, calling it an emotional moment. “We have been through so much together, from our early struggles to global tours and success. His playing and spirit helped define the Accept sound.” Baltes was instrumental in shaping the band’s signature style, contributing to classic albums such as Balls to the Wall, Restless and Wild, and Metal Heart.
Fans across the world have taken to social media to thank Baltes for his contributions and to wish him well on his next chapter. Though saddened, the band has confirmed they will continue and plan to announce a new bassist in the near future.
