Ann Arbor, MI – In a momentous announcement that reverberates through the halls of the University of Michigan, renowned broadcaster and beloved “Voice of the Wolverines,” Doug Karsch, has pledged a staggering $15 million to support the university’s athletics and student broadcasting programs. The gift, one of the largest ever made by a former media member affiliated with Michigan Athletics, reflects Karsch’s lifelong passion for sports, education, and the maize and blue.

Karsch, a Michigan alum and longtime play-by-play announcer for Wolverines football, made the announcement during a special ceremony at Michigan Stadium, where he emphasized the importance of giving back to the community that shaped his career. The donation will fund scholarships for student broadcasters, upgrade media facilities, and enhance training for future sports communication professionals.

“This university gave me my voice, my platform, and my purpose,” said Karsch. “Now it’s my turn to help the next generation find theirs.”

University officials praised the transformative gift, noting its potential to elevate Michigan’s athletic communications to new heights while honoring the legacy of one of its most passionate advocates. A commemorative plaque will be installed in the broadcast booth, marking a new chapter in Michigan’s storied tradition.
