Atlantic Ocean, April 18, 2025 – A devastating maritime disaster struck earlier today as the luxury cruise liner Ocean Visita capsized in the Atlantic Ocean, with more than 400 passengers and crew members feared dead. The ship, which departed from Lisbon en route to New York, sent a distress signal around 4:30 AM GMT before losing contact.
Rescue operations are underway, with multiple naval and air units from several countries responding to the scene. Eyewitnesses aboard nearby vessels reported rough seas and strong winds during the time of the incident. Survivors pulled from the water described a “sudden, violent tilt” before the vessel overturned.
The cruise liner was carrying over 700 people, including families on vacation and international tourists. So far, around 120 survivors have been rescued and are receiving medical attention.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the tragedy. Early speculation points to extreme weather and possible structural failure, but officials have yet to confirm any details.
